I have to let you know why getting your own set of dog house plans, and building it yourself is the best thing you will ever do for your dog. This past summer my store purchased dog house completely died on my poor dog. I’d just bought it less than a year ago and paid an arm and a leg for it. I was inside making breakfast the day after a large storm and was startled by my dog howling. I went out back to check and all looked alright except for the fact that she wouldn’t go close to her dog house. I walked over to check it and noticed that the roof was dripping at a rapid pace. I do not consider 1 year to be an appropriate amount of time for a doghouse to last that costs a few hundred dollars. I knew I was out of luck when it came to a replacement or refund.
After calming down, I knew I had to do something. Eightball loves being outdoors, but most of all she loved her dog house. At first I almost rushed back to my friendly neighborhood big box hardware store, but that was what had gotten me into this scenario in the first place. I knew I wasn’t really the handiest person in the world, but I did have a bit of experience with wood working, and thought how hard could it be. I jumped online and started to look for DIY dog house plans. I saw many of free plans but most of them were really bad, or the plans weren’t detailed enough. Now that I had my materials, and dog house plans in hand I knew it was time to get started. The work ended up being much easier than I ever would have thought, considering it was my first real DIY woodworking project (I’ve since built some picnic tables and sheds when I realized how simple and fun it was). My pup’s new dog house now has great insulation, is large enough for the neighbors dog to join her, and even has tinted windows….overkill maybe but I like it, and she is a big fan.
