-Edward Scissorhands is one of Depp’s most memorable roles. The film, which was Depp’s first collaboration with director Tim Burton, has become a cult classic and Depp’s character has become a favorite choice for people dressing up on Halloween.
-What’s Eating Gilbert Grape had Depp playing the part of a young man burdened with family troubles and the monotony of a small town. With the help of an amazing performance from Leonardo DiCaprio, Depp made this heartfelt movie quite exceptional.
-Benny and Joon. Definitely one of Depp’s least-know roles, many people haven’t even heard of this film. Depp plays an eccentric loner who falls in love with a schizophrenic girl. Most of the film’s humor comes from Depp’s silent routines where his physical acting reminds the viewer of Charlie Chaplin. Though not very well-known, this film shows Depp’s acting at its best.
-Donnie Brasco was Depp’s first foray into mobster films. Playing undercover FBI agent Joe Pistone, Depp’s gripping performance (with help from mobster-film veteran Al Pacino) made the film an instant crime classic. The struggle Pistone has between loyalty to his duty and his friendship with some of the mobsters he’s undercover with leaves viewers on the edge of their seats during this one.
-The Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy are the most commercially successful films of Depp’s career. Depp earned an Oscar nomination for his role as oddball Captain Jack Sparrow, the second of his career. The trilogy grossed $2.68 billion worldwide, making it one of the most successful trilogies ever, and Depp one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood.
-Charlie and Chocolate Factory saw Depp team up with Tim Burton again to remake the classic kid’s tale. Playing the enigmatic Willy Wonka, Depp helped make the film a huge success and just as lovable as the original.
