On the Waterfront: On the Waterfront is a drama from 1954 about corruption and the mob. Filmed in New Jersey, it is based on several true life mob violence stories. Marlon Brando stars in it and won best actor. The movie also won a number of other awards, including best director and best motion picture.
All About Eve: All About Eve is also a drama from the 1950s. Bette Davis stars as a famous actress whose career is threatened by a persistent fan. The film also stars Anne Baxter, and Marilyn Monroe makes an appearance. The film was nominated for 14 awards.
Network: Network is a dry, smart comedy from the 1970s about a fictional TV network and its struggle to stay afloat. It follows the network and its employees as they continue to receive poor ratings. The film was received extremely well by critics and includes a large cast with names such as Tim Robbins, Faye Dunaway, William Holden, Robert Duvall, and Ned Beatty.
Rebel Without a Cause: Rebel Without a Cause, from 1955, is one of James Dean’s most memorable and popular films. He plays Jim, the new kid at a high school in Los Angeles who rebels against school and his parents and falls in love along the way. This coming of age story was meant to represent the rebellious youth in the country at this time.
