AIT Data Tape
Growing archiving demands, image documents, digital data content and data protection altogether drive the need for tape-based solution with faster speeds, increased capacity and durability. That is why new mechanisms and features have been incorporated in AIT tape format. Diamond-Like-Carbon (DLC) is deposited onto the AIT tape reel for the protection of its surface. This coating mechanism is carried out in vacuum. DLC protective layer enhances the tape reliability and resistance against abrasion. It also prevents oxidation that extends the recording life and lowers the error rate. DLC makes the AIT tape surface smoother that contributes in increasing the head life.
AIT was the first tape cartridge in which the memory chip was incorporated. The cartridge chip records the user related and system information to speed up the data access and also heightens the reliability. The AIT memory chip comprises of 64 KB EEPROM (electrically erasable programmable read only memory). The MIC chip is mounted within the AIT tape and consists of 5 pin interface. The serial interface enables the AIT tape drive to retrieve and record the selected data directly from the MIC. This data is then used for customer applications. AIT-3 tape format also has the fiber-channel interface. AIT tape technology is scalable and user friendly. AIT format uses Helical-scan technique that provides 400,000 hours MTBF. This recording technique can record up to 1.04 TB data at very high speed.
Information is recorded in MIC at manufacturing time, when the cartridge media loads into the drive and when portions are up-dated as load, write or read sequence. Data access time in AIT tape format is reduced to 50% in comparison to conventional techniques. MIC chip increases the searching speed, boosts the data access time and reliability. AIT tape format provides more reliable and faster access to information of volume serial.
AIT tape format provides greater data integrity and helps in better management of the data-set by utilizing partition notes and user specified volume. Media security of the AIT tape enhances by use of the decryption codes that are held in MIC chip. AIT-3 tape format also has the fibre-channel interface.
