ECW 6/09/09 QnD results
Evan Bourne beat Tony Atlas. Uh-oh. Evan’s got wrist tape like CM Punk. He was lucky Atlas didn’t kill him. And I never thought I’d see Matt Sydal VS. Saba Simba, and yet here it is. Atlas’ ring gear is so 80′s.
Vladimir Kozlov killed some local jobbers. Why is Vladamir smiling and getting cheers now? Did I sleep through a face turn? His face turn just came out of the left field. No build up or anything. Vladdy grinning and acknowledging the crowd (and the crowd acknowledging him!) was kinda creepy. I couldn’t help but think that somehow we’d entered some kind of bizarro world. Did someone finally inform him the cold war is finally over or something? Anyways, nothing like a big ugly beast crushing jobbers and playing to the crowd.
David Hart Smith & Tyson Kidd beat Christian & Jack Swagger. Thwagger was replacing Fatty Dreamer here, leaving Captain Charisma & The All-American American to team up… It’s the Can-Am Connection, baby! End came when Christian slapped Swagger (Thuffering Thuckotath! Chrithtian jutht thlapped Thwagger!) which allowed the Hart Dynasty to perform their finisher and get the win.
RAW 6/8/09
Kofi Kingston d. William Regal, Trouble in Paradise — pin (2:05, **1/2). Short but well-worked. He really is Jamaican me crazy… *ahem* I’ll see myself out.
Divas champion Maryse d. Kelly Kelly, DDT — pin (2:53, *). Mickie sucked on commentary and the match was awkward.
Santino Marella, Goldust & Festus d. Chavo Guerrero, Jamie Noble & The Brian Kendrick, Goldust rollup — pin Noble (3:49, *1/2). This was a comedy match. Kendrick’s search for a partner seems to have ended in favor of Bland #1 and Bland #2 getting title opportunities. Oh, and somebody PLEASE get Hornswoggle out of here!
No match between The Miz and John Cena after Big Show interfered. I guess they are going to try to use Show to put over Miz now.
MVP d. Matt Hardy, Playmaker — pin (3:51, **1/2). Not great, but better than everything else they had. And Kofi-Regal get 2 minutes and Matt-MVP three minutes? Even the X-Division gets more time! Way to make the undercard seem important.
Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes d. Primo & Carlito, DiBiase Dream Street — pin Primo (6:22, **). Priceless finally get to look like somewhat of a threat here, though they looked like Duane Gill and Barry Horowitz at the end of the show by HHH (aka Superman, Jesus and The Incredible Hulk combined).
No match between Randy Orton and Batista because Batista was injured. I’ve no desire to see HHH/Orton…again. Way to blow off all of Orton’s heat. It’s March all over again.
The Ultimate Randy Savage Collection DVD thoughts
I’ve been waiting a long time for this DVD and I love it and it was worth the purchase. Here are a few thoughts that I have about it…
- I loved Savage’s debut match! I miss the “has a little fight in them” jobber days. I’m surprised by how much I liked this match.
- I totally forgot how smart of a wrestler Savage was. He has the ring psychology that is missing from many matches today. Every move has a rhyme or reason for doing it. Examples: He will punch the sholder and use armlocks to set up an ax handle from the top rope into the arm. He will kick the thigh area before putting on a leg submission. etc. Simply put, the man was a virtual wrestling clinic in the ring. I forgot how great Savage looked in the ring. Every one of his matches tells a story and just makes both stars look better.
- The cutting of the “Jake slaps Elizabeth” annoyed me. It was a MAJOR part of the feud.
- One interesting note was when Savage came out for the Nitro match with the posse of ladies including Woman, the lady at the very front is none other than Linda Bollea aka the future ex wife of Hulk Hogan.
- If it was 2001/2002, I wouldn’t be saying this… but why do they still claim to have “DVD bonus content” on DVDs? VHS is no more, and hasn’t been for a long time, so wouldn’t this just be the normal content on the DVD and not “bonus” content?
- Striker and Maria are HORRIBLE. I’m put to sleep between every match… it’s as if they are sleep walking through the words.
- I’ll be like the other 1000 people and say that I wish there was a documentary on this DVD.
